This self portrait is currently on the easel, an amusing break from a crow painting and a few other odds and ends. The drawing is on toned Canson drawing paper. This paper is lovely. I am working off a roll that I bought back in the 1980’s and have kept in a corner of my studio, unused.
I’m currently finishing an interesting book: The Tell-Tale Brain by neuroscientist, V. S. Ramachandran. In the book, there is some in-depth discussion of mirror neurons and their functions. It’s interesting to consider the ways that this circuitry might play a role in the act of drawing.
Yes, wtf am I doing showing at a restaurant, anyway? I have a choice group of paintings heading out to the Islesford Dock. The dock opens for the season on 6/20/12
A quick sketch in oil, Waterfall Arts figure study group. I am using a warm sepia ground and a clean wet brush to pull out lights. There’s about an hour of work in this one.
